Queen Arabella Pearl Alcott ruled a fantasy land of princes, princesses, farmers, fairies, rich and peasants and goblins. The land had no name, and the people liked it that way. Queen Arabella was a very hard hearted, cruel ruler and was very harsh with the peasants who came to her with requests of rice, milk and other things. She often slapped little girls who gave her flowers and spanked the little boys that would raise their caps and bow at her. And she lied. And she HATED poor people, which explain her rudeness and disrespect to the less privileged. One day, while the Queen was walking through the Unicorn Park in her land, she saw a beggar sitting under the shade of a pear tree. He was staring at the Queen, and she stared back. Finally, she broke the silence. You lazy bag of bones! Get up! Bow down to your queen or you and your family will be hanged!" The beggar stood up immediately, and bowed to her highness, when his son came running to him. He was a sight for sore eyes, for barely had any clothes on, just a torn pair of shorts, and was a 3 year old, with tears in his eyes and was so thin that a rake would have weighed more than the little innocent boy. The queen looked into his deep blue eyes that were cloudy with tears, and the boy noticed her and immediately managed to make a decent smiling face and bowed down. How can he smile in the condition of his? Thought the queen. Then she automatically looked all around her land. She could see boys, girls, men, women all poor and in very bad conditions. "Your smile, child, how did you manage to smile like that?" asked the queen, actually smiling. The boys burst into fits of tears and said "Your highness I have no food, nothing to eat, nothing to wear I have nothing and I am dying of thirst of hunger, but for someone so great, I could do anything." Then the queen realised how much her people respected her, whether poor or rich. She took the boy and his father to the palace and gave their family a feast. Soon almost 600 peasants were lined up at the palace. The boy was educated, and was cured of all the diseases he had. See, how a smile can change dark to light.
