Three to four days before my birthday on January 8, 2012, my mother told me that she has arranged for a surprise birthday gift for me.
By the way this was my seventeenth birthday but even at this age I was fond of toys. I guessed that my mother would have bought a candy doll for me. I had a showcase that was full of bears, dolls, monkey, Mickey, puppy, cars and aeroplanes. That was this gift, a new thing that would add color and beauty to my collection.
I insisted my mother to just once show me my surprise gift. It happened just a day before my birthday. I had a really soft thing wrapped in a red and golden wrapping paper that rested in my hand. It could not be a doll because I haven’t seen such a small doll in my life. I eagerly unwrapped my gift and found two blue eyes staring at me with a tiny pink nose. I was terrified. What is could be?
Slowly and gradually I got hold of the face of my gift and the next moment a cute little white cat was in my hands. Oh how cute and sweet it was? Tears rolled down my cheeks, as if saying that I have got what I wanted to complete my toy zoo collection. I thanked my mom so much after which she left the room. It was my cat and I inside the room. I kept staring at it and thinking what should I name it? Ah yes! I will name it Lawrence.
Then all of a sudden, I was petrified. My hand reached a hard material that was inside the cat. I jammed. Millions of thoughts struck my mind. I was wondering as if there has been a bomb fixed inside it. I threw it away a little far from me. My mother came in and she ordered me to sleep, as it was too late at night. She said me to put it safe or else I would turn a white cat into a black mouse within no time. I told my mom about the thing placed inside the cat but not about my phobia. She made me calm down by saying that it might be weight placed inside it.
“Oh I would burst! Will I die? Not so early!’ and then a loud blast made me awake just right in the morning. My mother found me lying on the floor with my hands floating in the air. My mother’s yell at me surely brought my senses back. Oh it was just a dream. That cat would just take away my life.
I proceeded to the showcase where my cat was placed. I took it for 2 to 3 minutes only to feel its softness and placed it right back. I thought that if the hard thing would burst than I would lose all my collection and myself also.
Few months later, one day, I hurried to take my cat. I assured myself that I would keep it with me always. The fear of explosion lessens when I pressed the thing hard and I heard a meow meow meow from it. But again it was not smooth one but it faded when it repeated. And now while writing this experience, I could see my cat sitting on my lap staring at me from her twinkling blue eyes and making me wonder it might explode anytime.
