Sally was ten years old. She had large, innocent, blue eyes. The best thing about her was her hair. She had long, lovely, silky, jet black hair, which covered her waist. All the people adored her for her lovely hair. Even her teacher, at school, didn’t tell her to make a pony or plait. Sally let her hair open every day. Sally had a best friend, named, Mary-Kate. Mary-Kate also adored her best friends’ attractive hair. When the best friends had sleepovers, they played hairdressers and Mary Kate made different designs on Sally’s hair. She was proud to be her friend. One day, while they were sitting in the art room at school, Mary Kate took hold of the scissors. The scissors were very sharp. The teacher told her to use the scissors carefully. When Mary Kate attempted to cut the chart paper, she accidently cut Sally’s black curls. Sally was sitting in front of her so she didn’t know. The whole class started sniggering. Mary Kate gasped in horror. "Why are you all laughing and staring at me?" Sally asked. "Look at her hair!" cried one of the students. "What’s with my hair?" sally asked. “Sally went into the toilet and looked at the mirror "AHhhhhhhhhhh!.." she cried. Mary Kate came running. She explained but Sally would not hear of it! "You did it on purpose, you jealous cow!" Sally roared in tears. "No...No you don’t understand!" Sally explained. "I don’t want to be your best Friend anymore! Look at my awful hair! They are only touching my neck!" Sally screamed and ran out. Sally was not seen in school for the next week. Mary Kate cried privately in her room. IT WAS AN ACCIDENT, she thought. Every day, she went to Sally’s house and pleaded her mother to see her. "I’m afraid not, Mary-Kate. Sally told me you did it on purpose. Sally does not want to see you." Sally’s mother banged the front door on poor Mary Kate's face. That day, Mary Kate went to the swamp. She sat on a rock and cried. No one understood her. IT WAS AN ACCIDENT, she thought again. Someone crept behind her. IT was SALLY! Sally looked completely different; her hair was as beautiful as before, but very short. "I’m sorry Mary Kate", Sally told her best friend. "So you forgive me?" Mary Kate asked. "YES" said sally and the two friends stood there hugging each other tightly, as they would never let go of each other.
