An ice cream slips from a baby's hand to the ground. His father knocks a vase, which crashes to the floor. And a little girl cries when she falls of her bicycle.
The ice cream, the vase and the little girl have all experienced the force of gravity-the power of earth to attract all things towards its own surface with a force which we call 'force of gravity'.
The force with which a thing is drawn towards earth is called 'weight'. If something weighs 50kg it will be attracted towards the earth with a force of 50kg. So the lighter somebody is, the easier it is for them to lift themselves off the earth-in jumping for example- because the force of gravity is less.
