The sudden decision of going to the Thar Desert was a pleasant surprise. We were all very excited. Early in the morning we started off. We had planned to eat breakfast on a highway hotel. When we reached there we were disappointed to find out that the staff was preparing to sleep. But they kindly made delicious tea and parathas for us. After breakfast we went on our journey to Hyderabad. There we visited our two khala’s. After visiting, we took the route to Mirpurkhas. There we stayed in a circuit house. It was quite big and the food was delicious. In the afternoon we went to Horticulture Institute. There we saw different birds. The scenery picturesque and we were spellbound. The next day we decided to go to Mithi, Tharparkar. In the way we saw Naukot fort. It was almost in ruins. It belongs to the Talpur family. The district is mostly deserts and consists of barren tracts of sand dunes covered with thorny bushes. The ridges are often irregular and roughly parallel, and they often enclosed shelter valleys, which rise to a height of some forty-six metres. In the way some children stopped our car and asked for water. We realised that we wasted so much water while to them it was a matter of life and death. We reached Mithi. We went to some temples. In one temple we also watched the religious ceremony of Hindus. There were also many pictures of their gods. A pleasant surprise was a camel pulling water out of a well. We went to a newly built picnic spot and had some snacks. As we were going back we saw a locksmith making locks. We had dinner, played some games and went to sleep. Next morning we had breakfast and then started off for Nagarparkar. After a long and exciting journey we reached there. After lunch we visited the outer post and saw the border through field glasses. Then we started off for Umerkot. It started to rain and the sky grew as black as coal. It was quite hard to see and due to this we reached Umerkot late in the night. We had dinner at a relative’s house. Then we slept like logs. The next day, we went to Umerkot fort. We also visited a museum that was inside the fort. The museum had many interesting and unique objects. In the afternoon we started for home. We reached home late but happy. We were so tired that we immediately fell asleep.
