Manners are something we hear about every day. “Where are your manners?” “Haven’t you learned any manners?” “Good to see that your mother has taught you manners”…. These are some of the comments we hear everyday depending upon our good or bad behavior. Do you know why manners are important? Good manners are more than just saying thank you or please or I am sorry. They are a way of showing respect to others. They are a sign of our good upbringing. They are a reflection of our personality but above everything else, good manners make the world a better place to live in. When we stand up and give our seat to an elderly person or hold the door open for our teacher or help a friend in need, we show that we care about them. We make them feel special and show that there is a place for them in our hearts and in our life. How terrible this world would be if there were no manners in it? There would be chaos all around us if everyone was rude and ill mannered and had no consideration for anyone else? Nowadays we see people break a queue to get to the front. Sometimes people push each other when getting on a bus. Drivers honk their horns loudly in front of schools and hospitals. Motorcyclists drive without silencers. People interrupt each other while talking. Sometimes they fight and use offensive language. When such bad manners become prevalent in majority, the society as a whole looks bad, It pays to be well mannered because our relationships, friendships and our careers in future life will depend upon being well mannered. There is more compelling reason to be well mannered. As a Muslim, we are representatives of our religion Islam. Do you know why Islam spread so quickly in the past? Scholars tell us that many non Muslims in places like Indonesia, and Malaysia accepted Islam because they were impressed by the personality traits of Muslim traders. Indeed, our prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon Him) once said “ “The best among you are those who have the best manners and character.' When we display good manners we are in fact following the Sunnah of our beloved prophet Muhammad SAW. He said: "Verily, I was sent for no other reason, except to perfect the noble traits of character. Once a Companion asked the Prophet, “What is there that takes a Muslim to Paradise?” The Prophet replied, “Fear of God and good manners.” So does it pay to be well mannered?. Yes it does. Not only in this world but also in the Hereafter.
Good job!Keep it up!
