Stephen looked at the gang photo and saw that the woman Elizabeth in the photo had the same face as the maid Betty! Then everything made sense to Stephen. He rushed back to Marvey’s house and met Mr and Mrs Marvey. Mrs Marvey asked, "Did you get any information about my girl?"
"Not yet but I know a person who is involved in this kidnapping," said Stephen.
"You do!? Please tell us!" asked Jonas Marvey.
"The person is...your maid Betty," said Stephen.
"Is it true!?" asked Mrs. Marvey.
"Call Betty at once, Maria!" said Jonas to his wife. When Betty came Stephen asked about her involvement in the kidnapping, she denied. But when Stephen told her about THE OPRESSERS, she panicked.
"I perceive you're a member of the gang as your true name is ELIZABETH not Betty. ’Betty' is your nickname." said Stephen.
"I know my name is Elizabeth but there can be more than one Elizabeth in this town," lied Betty. When Stephen showed her the gang photo, she became nervous and stammered, "OK,OK, I'm involved in this kidnapping but...I am not the only one involved." Mrs. Marvey, furious, grabbed Betty by her hair and screamed, "tell me where have you sent my girl and give me the reason otherwise I'll cut your throat!"
Betty said, "I...have sent her to my gang members. The reason was to ship...ship her abroad as a slave, so that we could get money."
"I think I should call the cops. It's time we round this gang up, once and for all!" replied Stephen.
