Education, manners, way of living etc, make the personality of a man. But sports and games also play an important role in the development of human personality. They are no less important than food grains and fresh water. The developed countries like England, France the U.S.A and U.S.S.R have made games an essential part of education at school level. It is interesting to note that there are in those countries many nurseries and training centres for games. They admit boys and girls for necessary training to become future athletes, gymnasts and sportsmen. No doubt, games and sports are becoming popular in Pakistan schools also. The facilities, of course, are not enough at present. The situation is expected to improve in the near future. Pakistan schoolboys and schoolgirls know full well the meaning of the proverb “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy”. They know that their growing bodies need regular physical exercise to keep themselves healthy and fit. General sports include hunting, fishing, riding, cycling, mountain climbing, skating and rowing. Mountaineering is becoming a favourites sport of Pakistan schoolboys in summer time among the mountains of Murree, Nathiagalli, Swat, Chitral, Kaghan and the Karakorum Highway. A number of school clubs and societies hold athletic contests. They include walking, jogging, jumping, swimming, rowing, wrestling, boxing, hammer / disc throwing, light weight lifting and gymnastics. An athlete is trained to be perfectly fit to engage in such contests. Moreover, football, hockey, cricked, tennis, badminton, and table tennis are among the favourites organized games in schools. All such sports and games certainly benefit mind and body together. They create cheerfulness, discipline, fellow feeling, confidence and physical fitness.
