Lost for words

Bell rings,
Doors open,
We push out of classrooms,
Stumble down corridors,
Then charge out
On the unsuspecting playgrounds,
As though we’ve just invented running.
Energy spilling in all directions
With only the school walls
To contain this sudden powerful force,
As we,
Bounce off walls,
Shouting names,
Rush around,
Inventing games,
Pestering and questioning,
Laughing and joking,
Or just stand,
Gushing and flushing with words,
Fresh and eager to shout our existence,
Firing ideas in all directions, until …
Bell rings,
doors close
We idle into classrooms,
Collapse on desks,
Paper, pencil in hand,
Ready for creating,
But can’t think what to say!
