Khalid bin Waleed

Khalid Bin Waleed was born in 592 in Makkah to Waleed Bin Mughaira, the chief of Banu Makhzum, a clan of Quraish tribe. His father was a wise and a far-sighted man in Quraish. Initially Khalid was also among the staunch enemies of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) but he accepted Islam later on.
As a member of the tribe of Makhzum, who had specialised in warfare, and who were amongst the best horsemen in Arabia, Khalid learned to ride and use weapons like the spear, the lance, the bow, and the sword as a child. He was also a wrestler. He had once defeated Umer in a wrestling match and broke his leg.
Khalid participated in many battles and won the title of the “Sword of Allah” in the Battle of Mu'tah. He led an army of only 3,000 men against a massive army of the Byzantine Empire and Ghassanid Arabs of 100,000 strong. He fought 41 battles and was not defeated in any of them.
