Make a bridge Category: Handicrafts

See if you can design a strong bridge shape with only paper and straws!

Steps to be taken

1.    First try experimenting with paper bridge shapes. Paper is much too flexible to make a flat bridge, but if you fold the paper the bridge can be made much stiffer and stronger. Three strong bridge shapes are shown below.  They are tube shape, channel shape, triangular shape.
2.    Try making a bridge frame out of plastic straws. Join the straws by pushing the end of one i
nto the end of another then adding sticky tape.
You could test your bridge’s strength by seeing whether it can take the weight of a yoghurt pot filled with sand.
